The Texans icon J. J. Watt offers the chance to come out of retirement, but there’s a catch.

J.J. Watt is retired and happy to stay that way. That is, unless there was a call from Houston Texans renowned coach DeMeco Ryans.

The well-known defensive end said the following on Saturday during his annual charity baseball game in the suburb of Sugar Land, Texas:

Watt revealed on The Pat McAfee Show in February that he had been “monitoring” the Pittsburgh Steelers, where his younger siblings Derek and TJ played, in addition to the Texans. This is hardly Watt’s first response to these rumors. However, in his words, “it never escalated to any sort of actual potential.”

GM of the Texans discusses potential J. J. Watt comeback.

But as it happens, Nick Caserio is as thrilled as J.J. Watt and DeMeco Ryans are about the player’s return.

The clever decision made by the general manager of the Texans to trade up with the Arizona Cardinals in order to select Will Anderson Jr. in the 2023 NFL Draft saw him win the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

But with the team hoping to capitalize on its recent success and advance to the AFC Championship Game, would it be worth it for him to restore his status as a legend of the game?

Caserio said during Thursday’s broadcast of The Pat McAfee Show:

Away from the field, Watt is happily married to former soccer player Kealia (née Ohai), with whom he has a child. He also holds an executive position with the Houston-based power company Reliant, works as a CBS analyst, and has a small ownership interest in the English soccer team Burnley.
